How It Started

Jerry Henderson grew up on the family farm located in the rolling hills of Southern Ohio.  He was the youngest of six.  On the farm they raised dairy cattle and grew crops.  When he returned home from the draft, he began trading horses.

As he sold the horses, he realized that the new owners needed supplies for their horse.    He added such items in the shed by the old farmhouse.  He then started to travel the tri state area doing tack sells.  While in Ripley, Wv at a monthly auction he met his wife, Beverley.

She moved to Ohio, and they began to scale the business and add a few new adventures.  At this time, they engaged into the Standerbred breeding.  Henderson Farms stood two stallions and had over 100 broodmares.  After a decade of raising babies their old stallion, Tuluck, passed and they sold out of the broodmare business.

Beverley then purchased a small APHA colt that was very pretty.  She named him Sam I Am after the lady whom she purchased him.  Bev had an idea to adopt him out like the Cabbage Patch kids.   She contacted Peter Stone of Breyer Horses and had a model made of him.

Their daughter, Beth, begun to show horses and traveling around to different facilities.  After seeing a bunch of horse shows they decided they wanted to build a show arena.  in 1994 Henderson's Arena was built.  It was a 125x250 indoor riding arena.  Right away they started hosting events and equine enthusiast came from across the country.

The arena is still going and has added 260 stalls with lots of parking, camping and a down home concession stand.  The retail store has moved across the street from the arena in a 12,000 sq ft building.  They have also added an online store and ship world wide.
